An announcement by the organisers
SANTAS PAINT THE TOWN RED
Edinburgh’s Santa Weekend sees the opening of Santa’s Gardens
on Saturday 9 December with the arrival of Santa himself. At 10am Santa will
open the Reindeer Garden, Santa’s Post Box and passengers will be welcomed
aboard the Santa Express for the first time.
A new addition this year, and for the first time in Scotland, will be the
Hat Kata tents in West Princes Street Gardens. These large tents, all the way
from Lapland, will be home to activities such as storytelling and face painting
for young visitors to Santa’s Gardens from 10am - 5pm on Saturday and 12 – 5pm
on Sunday. Horse and carriage rides will also take place in West Princes Street
Gardens from 11am - 4pm on Saturday 9 and 12 - 4pm on Sunday 10. Both of these
activities also take place on the weekend of 16 – 17 December.
On Sunday 10 December,
The Great Scottish Santa Run, one of the largest Santa gatherings in the UK,
takes place. From the young to the not so young, over 1,800 people will run,
skip, jog or walk the 1.5 km circuit, all dressed as Santa's for the charity When
you Wish Upon a Star, dedicated to making the wishes of seriously ill Scottish
children come true. This year, proceeds raised will go towards the Christmas
Lapland Appeal which allows children to be taken Lapland to see the ‘real’ Santa
Claus.
