NYOS are delighted to announce their Winter season 2009/2010.  Highlights for the season include:

NYJOS Access

NYOS' latest initiative, NYJOS Access will perform in the foyer of The National Museum of Scotland as part of their Homecoming Scotland celebrations.

This New Year, let NYOS sweep you away with tales of pirates, vikings and sea spirits in their concert Adventures at Sea.

In this performance, which will be conducted by Christopher Adey, NYOS will explore a sea faring repertoire which includes Erich Korngold's swashbuckling Overture to the Sea Hawk, Sibelius's mythological The Oceanides and Rimsky Korsakov's romantic saga of Scheherazade and her one thousand and one tales of Arabian nights. 

This  evening of maritime adventure also includes John McLeod's NYOS commissioned symphonic poem for orchestra, The Gokstad Ship, inspired by the intriguing and fascinating history of the Vikings and the discovery of one of their sacred burial chambers.

 Luigi Dallapiccola            Tre Laudi

 This is the latest instalment of the NYOS Futures series of concerts which explore fascinating pieces of contemporary music. NYOS Futures will explore an early work by Luigi Dalapiccola, the most innovative composer to emerge from the Italian Facist regime.  A profound sensitivity of human needs and a mastery of compositional technique are the two overriding characteristics of the music of Luigi Dallapiccola. Dallapiccola observed and reacted to life about him, life during an era of political and social upheaval, but his Tre Laudi is a work with a more spiritual than political dimension.

 Camerata Scotland will visit Aberdeen, St. Andrews and Edinburgh to perform exciting and challenging repertoire.

 With conductor Nicholas Kok, the ensemble will explore Mozart's Haffner Symphony, Britten's interpretation of Rimbaud's poetry in Les illuminations with guest tenor Ed Lyon, Purcell's Chacony and Beethoven's light-hearted Symphony No 8.
